I love the smell of leaded in the morning! And, I'm all excited about this new blog!
You see, the Feasting on Americana concept began in 2007 when my friend and I hit the open road. I posted the trip on my other blog, Cookin' At Café D.
After my first jaunt through parts of Indiana and Kentucky, my sis wanted to see some sights with her in Michigan. The more I traveled, the more people said they wanted to come along. The desire to hit the dirt road and get some grub is pretty contagious.
We'll start with some past trips - wonderful places with tasty vittles. And, since my pics have been stacking up, we have lots of new stuff to show you, too.
Feasting on Americana - Our Purpose:
1. To eat in diners and cafés while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, good food and good people within their walls.
2. To visit some wacky road sites - like a giant pink elephant - before they are just a memory. (We love large fiberglass objects!)
3. To examine some of the history of road lodging - including refurbished as well as abandoned "tourist cottages." (Sleeping a night in the famed "Wigwam Motel No. 2" was quite memorable.)
4. To stop at interesting places which strike our fancy along the way.
5. (Oh, I almost forgot.) To forgo the Interstate System as much as possible, electing instead to travel the wee windy roads. (Disclaimer: For safety's sake, we take Interstates after dark.)
Ready to grab your hat?Let's hit the dirt road and grab some grub along the way!
Thank you to Alton Brown for the inspiration that landed me back out on the road. His Feasting On Asphalt Series recharged the wanderlust that I had in college. That was the kick in the pants I needed to go exploring. That, and good company...and music, of course!

Way cool, Dana! Y'know, a trip to the Disney area in Florida could give you LOTS of fodder for articles. I personally live less than 0.50 mile from Gatorland, which hosts a HUGE set of alligator jaws (and teeth) made out of concrete (which is a good thing because when the main building burned down 2 years ago, the historic jaws, which would have got up in smoke, survived).
